Mr. Rickey D. Koontz Sr., 65, of LaPorte, died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, at his home after a nine-month illness.
He was born Dec. 15, 1946, in LaPorte to Raymond and Regina (Mayer) Koontz and lived his entire life in this area.
Rickey retired from Michigan City Tool & Die as a machinist. He graduated from LaPorte High School in 1965. He enjoyed square dancing and was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
On May 7, 1966, in LaPorte, he married Judith A. Mooney, who survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Rickey Koontz Jr., James (Penny) Koontz, Randal (Sheryl) Koontz and Jeffery Koontz, all of LaPorte; four grandchildren, Kyle, MaKayla, Sarah and Nicholas Koontz; one sister, Alverna (Larry) Versmesse of New Carlisle, IN; two nieces; two nephews; mother-in-law Edith Mooney of LaPorte; one sister-in-law, Connie Burger of LaPorte; and one brother-in-law, Paul Mooney Jr. of LaPorte.
He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather William Demarah, brother Stephan Koontz, stepbrother Richard Demarah, and father-in-law Paul Mooney Sr.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at Essling Funeral Home, LaPorte. Visitation will be Wednesday, Nov. 14, from 4 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will follow the service in Patton Cemetery, LaPorte.
